2009 and 2010

At the 2009 NFL Combine, Vasquez bench pressed 225 pounds 39 times. His 39 repetitions were the highest of any participant at the combine.[5] Vasquez was drafted in the 3rd round (78th overall) by the San Diego Chargers.[6]

During the Chargers' training camp, Vasquez competed for the right guard starting position with veteran Kynan Forney. Vasquez won the job, and Forney (who was dealing with a neck injury at the time)[7] was later released from the team. Vasquez became the sole rookie in the starting lineup.[8]

In his first season he was San Diego's only rookie starter.

He was the " star " of the San Diego draft picks, stating he was a terrific value pick.

In his first 2 seasons with the Chargers he had many injury problems mainly concerning his neck and ankle.

During a game against the New England Patriots Vasquez made a False Start from a field goal formation which this meant the field goal was pulled back 5 crucial yards leading to the field goal getting missed and the Chargers losing by 3 points.

In his first season he was ranked 7th in the AFC west Offensive Linemen Ranking, in his second year he was ranked 9th.

He was also voted AFC West's best rookie of the 2009 season because " In a division where skill position players (Darrius Heyward-Bey and Knowshon Moreno) were taken among the first 12 picks of the draft, it was an offensive lineman taken in the third round who was the best rookie in the division. Vasquez impressed San Diego’s coaches in the May minicamp and he got better as the season progressed. He was a big part of the team’s offense. " and for being a top flight pass protector.
